  • A New Year in Texas, Home of UT
College kids are recklace, when it comes to 6 st
Pay them no mind, patience keeps me from going crazy
To avoid doing time, I just think of my baby
She is my strength, no matter where i may go
Keeps me walking straight, and under control
Texas is a huge wonderful state
Just a lil too hot for this Newyoricans taste
Its all good, im getting used to the heat
Unlike the hood where the heat is the street
At times it feels hopeless, starting from scratch
As long as I focus i wont revert back
Have to stay strong, if im gonna progress
Cant afford to prolong, or settle for less

I figured cooking was the only job i could get
Started, stopped looking, end up living check 2 check
I have no regrets, if i have to save each dime
They say lifes a test, but its like the answers are sublime
It gets better with time, i’ve heard that before
If you’ve walked a straight line, you’ll know what life has instore
Innocent till proven guilty, suppose to be a fact
Guilty till proven innocent, sounds more exact
The role of a criminal, is one no one wants
Unless your just sinical, then its a jacket you would flaunt
Im done with that style, supposedly a revolving door
Never went to trial, I would’ve ended up doing more
I can walk a straight line, where every i go
Remember at all times, you reap what you sowe
I think of consequences first, before i just reacted
Like a vampires thirst, it cannot be extracted

  • I have to ask – is it okay to just submit a really short story in prose style? It doesn’t have to be a poem or spoken word or comedy? I want to enter, but I don’t know if I’m even on the right track with my story. It’s a little bit weird, too! I hope that’s okay.

  • Hi Joseph & Lauren, my apologies for not noticing your comments sooner. I’m fixing the comment notification system so this isn’t an issue in the future. Very sorry!
